Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program

As reported by the Federation of Texas Psychiatry Public Policy Advisor, Eric Woomer, in the last publication of the Texas Psychiatrist, the Mental Health Loan Repayment Program receiving a significant increase in appropriations (from $2 million over the previous biennium to $28 million for the next cycle).

The purpose of the Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program is to encourage mental health professionals to practice in a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area (MHPSA) and provide services to individuals, groups, and families to help them manage and overcome their mental health challenges.

The application window for 2023-24 is now open. To begin your application you must create an account by going to CBPass at https://www1.highered.texas.gov/cbpass/. Psychiatrists must be eligible to take the exam for board certification to receive their final year of repayment assistance.
