The TEXAS SOCIETY OF PSYCHIATRIC PHYSICIANS has been the District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association since 1956 and will continue to serve Texas psychiatrists as their representative with the national organization. As a District Branch of the APA, TSPP adheres to the policies and procedures of the national organization, including the requirement of dual membership. Within this structure, psychiatrists must be members of both APA and a District Branch to maintain membership in either. As members of TSPP, psychiatrists will be afforded the membership benefits of both APA and TSPP.
Beginning with the 2027 membership year, TSPP participates in APA centralized billing. All applications and dues payments for APA and TSPP are now handled through APA. When you join, you will receive a single invoice that includes both your national and TSPP dues.

Your 2027 renewal invoice will come from APA and will include your TSPP dues. Please pay through APA rather than directly to TSPP. Members with an outstanding balance from a prior year should contact our office.

Resident-Fellow Member ($50) – are physicians accepted into an approved psychiatric residency training program. Resident-Fellow status may not exceed six years. Upon completing residency, Resident-Fellow Members advance to General Membership. First-year Resident-Fellow dues are waived.
General Members ($150-$450) – are physicians who have completed acceptable training and hold a valid license to practice medicine, or an academic, research, or governmental position that does not require licensure. Early career psychiatrists receive reduced dues during their first four years after training.
Fellows ($450) – are General Members certified by the ABPN, RCPSC, or AOA, advanced to Fellowship with the concurrence of the APA Membership Committee.
Distinguished Fellows ($450) – have been General Members or Fellows for at least eight consecutive years and have made significant contributions to the field of psychiatry.
Honorary Fellows ($450) – are physicians or others who have rendered extraordinary service in the promotion of mental health and psychiatry.
Semi-Retired Members ($225) – are members near retirement age who work fewer than 15 hours per week in any administrative or clinical role across all settings.
Retired Members ($150) – are members who have reached retirement age and are fully retired from all administrative and clinical responsibilities.
Life Status (Reduction of Dues by 1/3 for 5 years, then by 2/3 for 5 years, then Dues exempt) – Members who qualified under the Rule of 95 by the 2021 renewal year pay reduced dues on the schedule set by the Bylaws and are dues-exempt after ten years. After 2021, Life Status is an honorary designation earned through 30 or more years of membership.
Inactive Members are members of any membership category who are excused from paying dues by the Executive Council. Inactive members shall not receive credit toward the number of years of active membership required for Life status for years of inactive status.
