“Risk Management Considerations with Supervisory and Consultative Relationships”

There are three primary shared treatment models for psychiatrists: consultative, supervisory, and collaborative. A psychiatrist’s understanding of the risks associated with each model depends on the specific integrated care setting they work in, their clarity about the roles and expectations within each model, and their knowledge of the legal elements involved in negligence claims.

This webinar will assist participants in addressing the risks associated with different psychiatric roles by emphasizing the
importance of understanding relevant state and federal laws regarding doctor-patient relationships, consultations, and supervisory duties. It will use case examples to illustrate various shared treatment models and highlight risk mitigation strategies to reduce liability exposure.

Educational Objectives
Webinar attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the common theories of liability asserted in medical malpractice cases involving collaboration and supervision
  • Apply risk management principles and best practices to mitigate risks when leading teams and working with licensed and
    unlicensed staff
  • Differentiate the scope of practice for Nurse Practitioners (NP) and physician assistants (PA)
  • Discuss the physician’s responsibilities when collaborating with or supervising advanced practice providers (APP)
