MEMBERSHIP A major mission of the Federation of Texas Psychiatry is to encourage psychiatrists in Texas to be members of organized psychiatry. Involvement in organized psychiatry affords psychiatrists to be part of organizations advocating for the highest quality of psychiatric care for patients in Texas. Membership in organized psychiatry also strengthens psychiatry's influence in policy-making in the Texas Legislature and state regulatory agencies. In pursuit of the mission of uniting and strengthening the voice of Texas psychiatry, the Federation encourages psychiatrists to be members of the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, a District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association and/or the Texas Academy of Psychiatry. TEXAS SOCIETY OF PSYCHIATRIC PHYSICIANS The TEXAS SOCIETY OF PSYCHIATRIC PHYSICIANS has been the District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association since 1956 and will continue to serve Texas psychiatrists as their representative with the national organization. As a District Branch of the APA, TSPP adheres to the policies and procedures of the national organization, including the requirement of dual membership. Within this structure, psychiatrists must be members of both APA and a District Branch to maintain membership in either. As members of TSPP, psychiatrists will be afforded the membership benefits of both APA and TSPP. For an application for TSPP membership, please contact the APA by clicking here. You may also contact the TSPP at TSPPofc@aol.com. TSPP Membership Categories and Annual Dues: Members-in-Training ($50) - shall be physicians who have been accepted into an approved psychiatric residency training program. Member-in-Training status shall not exceed six years, and upon completion of approved residency training, Members-in-Training shall be advanced to General Membership. General Members
($395) - shall be physicians who have completed acceptable training and who have
either a valid license to practice medicine or hold an academic, research, or
governmental position that does not require licensure. TEXAS ACADEMY OF PSYCHIATRY The TEXAS ACADEMY OF PSYCHIATRY was formed in 2004 to provide additional membership options for Texas psychiatrists. Texas psychiatrists may become members of the Academy without the mandated dual membership requirement of APA/TSPP. Academy members will receive benefits comparable to those offered by TSPP, except for APA benefits. The Academy and TSPP are independent organizations, with their own respective governing bodies.
